Not everything goes according to plan. The stage was set on Saturday for a close match to determine the winner of the Texas Collegiate Soccer League Men’s South Conference.

51’s club soccer team had other plans…dominate from start to finish. Scorpion field was all TSC all the time on Saturday as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back against its rivals from UTRGV.

Now TSC knows they’ll be qualified for the regional tournament, the playoffs in a few weeks in San Marcos.

“We expected it because throughout the season we faced different scenarios,” Zamora said. “Two of those games we had to come from behind. I did expect our team to win in a controlling fashion, with authority.”

The Scorpions got the offensive party started quickly with a goal just 30 seconds after opening kickoff.

The goals were scored by Jose Echavarria, Leoncio Estrada, Edward Rodriguez, Pablo Perez, Sebastian Gonzalez and the captain, Adrian Longoria.

“We were able to score with any player,” Zamora said. “Two defenders scored in this game, a midfielder and some players who came off the bench. I’m glad that we have these type of players. We have so many players from the bench who give us great options to do something different.”

The season has been impressive for all Scorpion fans and staff.

Dr. Armando Ponce is the Director of Athletics and Civility. He has been on the sidelines for all of the games so far during this perfect campaign.

“This started in August when they first began practicing,” Dr. Ponce said. “They practice three times a week before school starts,”

He also gave a lot of credit to the leadership of Coach Zamora that seems to get the best of his units every fixture.

“The team has bought into his philosophy. They are consistent in their effort and they listen to their coach. They want to play for him. In any sport when you have athletes that want to play for their coach it goes a long way.”

The Scorpions will end the regular season with a bang, welcoming players from College Station when the Texas A&M Aggies club team comes to town this weekend. The match will take place at 3 p.m. and will serve as the final tune-up match before TSC continues its journey into the postseason.

Last season was good for 51’s club soccer team…but this time around, they are aiming for greatness.

In its first game of the season, TSC took down SouthTexasCollegeby theeye-poppingscore of 10-0.

TSC proved they know how to fill the net with seven different goal scorersfinding the scoresheet.

Pablo Perezledthe way with a hat trick, three goals, and former Brownsville Lopez standout Jose ‘Chevy’Echaverriaput two in the net.

While KevinZarrazagas, Jean Carlos Villegas, Edward Uriel Rodriguez, Caleb Perez and Leoncio Estrada all scored once.

Mario Zamora is entering his third season as the team’s coach. In 2019 they reached nationals, in 2020 the season was canceled and last season they reached regionals against some strong competitionfrom Division I schools. Coach Zamorawas a TSC soccer player himself when he was in college. He feels a strong connection and pride in leading this group of Scorpions.

“We had a really good pre-season, so the team was anxious to play our first game as a team,”Soccer CoachZamora said. “Seems like it’s a great connection with the team, a lot of communication as well.”

TSC will bring the energy toScorpionField, behind the recreation center, this Saturday at 3p.m.for the home openeragainst Trinity University.

“Our game on Saturday should be a really good game,” Zamora said. “We beat that school 5-4 last season. It went back and forth with goals. Now they are coming here to our place so we’re expecting to put on a good show.”

The match will be the first of four games that students, employees and the entire community can enjoy for free. The following home games will take placeon Oct. 1, Oct. 15, and Oct. 22.

He made sure to invite the entire student, staff and community as well as shout out those at 51 who make the game day experience memorable. Don’t miss out!

“TSC staff; Raul Cano, Dr. Armando Ponce and Dr. Jesus Rodriguez put a lot of effort to havea greatatmosphere…the national anthem, goodies for the fans. Ithas becomea great place to watchthe game of soccer,” Zamora said. “We really want to see the student body and communitycomeand show support. Brownsville isgreatsoccercity,and we want to be a team that represents this area.”
