TSC’s nursing program National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) 90% pass rate is above the required rate of 80% set by NCLEX.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Receiving this full approval is a sigh of relief,” said Beth Kasprisin, TSC Associate Degree of Nursing Director. “It is an end to a chapter we started in 2018 as we developed this program. It has been a successful venture, and now new work needs to be done.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The NCELEX-approved nursing program will focus on expanding cohorts and increasing staff to meet the needs and demands of the profession.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The demand for nurses continues to increase nationally; in the Rio Grande Valley, we exceed the national shortage of nurses, so growing our program will benefit the profession,” said Kasprisin.<\/span><\/p>\n

The program aims to create a foundation of proper patient care and skills, preparing a nursing student for clinical rotations and eventually employment at hospitals, doctors’ clinics, nursing homes, or rehabilitation centers.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The key to producing knowledgeable, skilled, and empathetic nurses is to set expectations early in their nursing education,” said Kasprisin. “They need to learn expectations, terminology, and the skill sets to work with advanced machinery and simulation labs; and because of the investments and support we have received from TSC’s Board of Trustees and leadership, it is all possible at TSC.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the TSC’s nursing program inception, more than 60 students have become registered nurses at Valley Regional Medical Center, Valley Baptist Medical Center Brownsville, and Harlingen and Harlingen Medical Center, among other RGV and statewide hospitals.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Increasing enrollment will increase our graduates, which will keep our nursing program on the map,” said Kasprisin. “As a fully accredited program, we now rank with the rest and begin a new phase.”<\/span><\/p>\n
