TSC Executive Director of Athletics and Civility Dr. Armando Ponce along with soccer coach Mario Zamora and Raul Cano, Coordinator of Recreation Center represented 51ÁÔÆæ. <\/p>\n
The two standouts from IDEA Riverview High School will transition from Rockets to Scorpions when they graduate this Spring and join TSC\u2019s program in the Fall. <\/p>\n
The boys\u2019 and girls’ teams at Riverview, which they lead, are at the top of the standings. <\/p>\n
Ramos said that her path wasn\u2019t easy and there were points she thought she\u2019d have to stop playing soccer. Now she can continue her career with the ability to have family support her at home matches. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very grateful that my family and everyone else has supported me through this road,\u201d Ramos said. \u201cI\u2019m very grateful to be able to play at the college level, not everybody gets the chance to keep playing. It feels amazing because my mom and dad come to every game. I love feeling their support so it\u2019s good to be home.\u201d <\/p>\n
Meija said this moment was something he had been looking forward to since he was a young player. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a very proud moment. I\u2019ve been waiting for this since I was a child,\u201d Meija said. \u201cI am especially happy to make my mother proud, she has always been there for me. I\u2019m going to have family, friends and those who have supported me through the years able to keep watching me play.\u201d <\/p>\n
IDEA Riverview Athletic Coordinator Albert Perez graduated from UTB\/TSC, so he is happy to see an athletic program return to Brownsville. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very proud that TSC has brought back athletics and for us to be the first school to have students sign is just a blessing,\u201d Perez said. \u201cProximity was a huge selling point. There were other schools showing interest for both athletes but the fact they get to stay home, in Brownsville, and play for everyone that was a part of their journey was hard to pass up.\u201d <\/p>\n
51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s soccer programs are beginning to fill out the rosters for men and women. The first home match is slated for September 1st, 2023. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an exciting moment for the program. We just signed two talented players that will help us succeed on and off the field,\u201d Zamora said. \u201cI\u2019m very excited to have local, RGV players having the opportunities to play at the next level. I\u2019m from here and I know the players and the community. The community support is going to go a long way.\u201d <\/p>\n
