CTE Exploration Day gave students the opportunity to take a closer look at the kind of high-quality training they can expect from a variety of different programs as they begin thinking about what future careers they might like to pursue.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;3_5,2_5&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;3_5&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; link_text_color=&#8221;#F6892B&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">October 2, 2024 &#8211; Seeing is believing. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> is a phrase that skeptics often use to urge a second party to convince them of the validity of a statement. In the case of Texas Southmost <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">College\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Career and Technical Education Career (CTE) Exploration Day at <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">TSC\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> International Technology, Education and Commerce (ITEC) Center, it was an opportunity for the meaning of that phrase to <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be put<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> into practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Students from Premier High School Brownsville <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">were given<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a unique opportunity to visit the ITEC Center, where <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">they were taken<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> on a tour of the various training facilities available to students who enroll in <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">TSC\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Workforce Training and Healthcare Professions programs. Faculty were on hand to show the students the various hands-on training facilities, providing them a firsthand account of the different types of training areas and equipment that students in the program can use as part of the high-quality training they receive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> many high school students<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, its not uncommon for them<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to begin thinking about what awaits them after they graduate. However, in most cases, it can be intimidating for them to confront the issue of having to identify a career pathway or area of focus in college when they have such a limited amount of experience with exactly what kind of vocations are available out <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> there, let alone which one may be a good fit for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">CTE Exploration Day directly addresses this issue by literally opening the doors of the classrooms and training facilities of <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">TSC\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Workforce and Health Professions programs. Students are allowed to take in the sights and sounds of these areas, and they are urged to know that, once they graduate from high school, these programs are here for them to take part in should they find themselves interested.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cT<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">his experience has been incredibly eye-opening for the students,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">said Humberto Cisneros, CTE Lead Teacher at Premier High School Brownsville.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> \u201c<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They\u2019re<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> gaining a clearer understanding of the in-demand jobs and the growing opportunities in the workforce while realizing the constant need for skilled workers<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tsc.edu\/academics-and-career-programs\/business-engineering-architecture-and-technology\/construction-manufacturing-transportation-and-technology\/automotive-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Automotive Technology<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tsc.edu\/academics-and-career-programs\/wtce\/career-training\/structural-welding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Structural Welding<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tsc.edu\/academics-and-career-programs\/wtce\/career-training\/pipefitting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pipefitting<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tsc.edu\/academics-and-career-programs\/health-professions\/diagnostic-medical-sonography\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Diagnostic Medical Sonography<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tsc.edu\/academics-and-career-programs\/health-professions\/associate-degree-nursing-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Associate Degree Nursing (ADN)<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tsc.edu\/academics-and-career-programs\/business-engineering-architecture-and-technology\/construction-manufacturing-transportation-and-technology\/heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC)<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> were just a few of the different programs <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">which<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> welcomed the students into their areas to give them a full glimpse of what each has to offer in terms of training and future job prospects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Showing the students the content available within these programs is just one half of the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">event\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> goal\u2014the other half is creating the context for why any of the programs could be beneficial in creating potential pathways for their future careers. Frank Lopez, an instructor with the Commercial and Residential Electrician program, also addressed the students by illustrating two perspectives on a single issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cW<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">e usually give them the example of a broken light fixture,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">began Lopez.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> \u201c<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Are you going to pay somebody to fix it? Are you going to try to fix it yourself? <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If they learn how to repair on their own, they not only save on the cost of <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">having to hire<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> someone<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">but <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">they<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> have the satisfaction that they were able to fix it themselves.<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If that same student feels like they can <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">possibly<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> make a career out of repairing things, they can look into our program and not only learn all of the crucial skills <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">that <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">they<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> need but also get them on the pathway to get certified and start working soon after they finish the program.<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a win-win situation<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For the Premier High School students, including Vivian Vega and Sergio Guzman, the event was an eye-opening experience<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, leaving quite<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a few with a greater sense of clarity <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">of<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the options they have available once the time comes to take the first big step into their future careers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;I<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> feel like there are so many opportunities for me to learn here,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8221; <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">said Vega.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> &#8220;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">I used to think I could never do something as complex as electrical wiring, but after hearing about their training programs, I believe I could learn those skills, too.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8221; <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Guzman added,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> &#8220;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A lot stood out to me as well.
