{"id":9116,"date":"2026-06-22T13:56:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T13:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tsc.edu\/news\/?p=9116"},"modified":"2026-06-22T13:56:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T13:56:22","slug":"tsc-auto-body-repair-technology-program-helps-graduate-find-purpose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tsc.edu\/news\/2026\/06\/tsc-auto-body-repair-technology-program-helps-graduate-find-purpose\/","title":{"rendered":"TSC Auto Body Repair Technology Program Helps Graduate Find Purpose"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_column _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_video _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; src=&#8221;https:\/\/vimeo.com\/1203472033&#8243; custom_margin=&#8221;-100px||||false|false&#8221;][\/et_pb_video][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS &#8212; 51ÁÔÆæ provided a new outlook on life for Richard Rivas, who recently graduated from the Auto Body Repair Technology program.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI told my teachers I really wish I was here years ago,\u201d Rivas said. \u201cI didn\u2019t have the idea of going to college and didn\u2019t know what I wanted to do in life.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Before enrolling, Rivas worked in the food service and janitorial industries.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI was super young at the time, in my early 20s, waking up early every morning and having to take care of the cafeteria pretty much on my own,\u201d he said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t the right job for me.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Seeking a new direction, he began researching programs offered at TSC.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI went on my laptop and looked into TSC and saw what classes were out there, and I knew I wanted to get into cars,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>After enrolling in the program, Rivas discovered a passion for restoring vehicles and connected with instructors who supported his growth.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Rivas said program coordinator Donald L. Wilt and instructor Edrick J. Cuevas played a major role in helping him complete the program.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI never had teachers like them showing me so much about cars,\u201d Rivas said. \u201cHow to restore them, how to paint and how to prep. It\u2019s a blessing that this school has some great people.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Wilt said Rivas\u2019 dedication stood out.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u201cHe stayed when we needed to complete a project,\u201d Wilt said. \u201cHe was staying longer than regular class hours. He was always willing to help classmates. When we needed to go out to events, he was willing to showcase the program.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Wilt encouraged Rivas to apply for the Collision Repair Education Foundation scholarship, valued at $2,500.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Rivas applied and was surprised when he learned he had been selected.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI was shocked when I opened it up in the morning,\u201d he said. \u201cI couldn\u2019t believe it. As I read the message, it was legit.
